Textile industries (textile mills) being one of the largest consumers of water, dyes and various processing chemicals during the various stages of textile processing generate effluents which are found to have higher pollution load, higher volumetric load and consisting of spent or un-utilized resources.

The textile wastewater effluent contains high amounts of hazardous pollutants including suspended and dissolved solids, biological oxygen demand (BOD),chemical oxygen demand (COD), chemicals, contain trace metals like Cr, As, Cu and Zn and color . If these wastewaters are discharged into the environment they will cause serious and harmful impact not only on underground and surface water bodies and land in the surrounding area but also will have an adverse effect on the aquatic ecological system.
